Private School Affidavits in CA
The information provided on this site should not be taken as legal advice. For the latest information in PSA, we recommend visiting HSLDA and the CA Dept of Education websites.
Summarized:
- If you have joined a charter school or other umbrella organization, you do NOT need to file a PSA (or do anything if you had one in years past). Ramona Christian is NOT a charter school or umbrella organization. We recommend families file a PSA.
- If you filed a PSA during the previous year, you may fill out this year's PSA any time after August 1 of the current school year (or the following Monday if it falls on a weekend). You may have already received a letter from the CA Education Department with instructions (see below for a sample letter)
- If you filed a PSA during the previous year, use your confirmation number or email address from last year and most of your form will be pre-filled for this year!
- Private School Affidavits ARE NOT REQUIRED UNTIL OCTOBER 1-15. To start a new PSA, use the link below. You may choose to file early, but it is not required!
- If you filed a previous PSA and do NOT need to file this year (if you joined an umbrella organization tracking your student on your behalf, if you joined a charter school, or if your students attend MVA, RUSD, or a private school), you do not need to do anything!
If you have filed a PSA in CA in the past, you may have received an email stating that PSA filing is now available as early as August 1 for the current school year. This is the sample of the letter you may have received (summary below!):
Dear Private School Administrator:
The filing of the Private School Affidavit (PSA) is an annual requirement of all private schools offering elementary and high school level instruction in California. Per California Education Code Section 33190, an affidavit shall be filed with the California Department of Education (CDE) between October 1 and 15 of each year. Our records indicate that you filed a 2023-24 affidavit last year, therefore, we are providing a friendly reminder to file an affidavit for the 2023–24 school year, should you plan to continue to offer elementary and/or high school level private school instruction.
NOTE: If you do not plan to provide private school instruction in California this school year (i.e., school closed, you moved out of state, or you are no longer homeschooling), NO ACTION IS NECESSARY, NO NEED TO RESPOND and you may DISREGARD THIS NOTICE.
Filing the AffidavitFor the 2024–25 school year, the PSA filing system will be available beginning August 1, 2024 and will be available through June 30, 2025.
Since you filed an affidavit last year, a portion of last year’s information may be used to expedite the filing of this year’s affidavit. To prefill this year’s affidavit with information from last year’s filing, you will need last year’s confirmation code, which may be retrieved from the Retrieve Previous Year Affidavit screen during the filing process, see step 4 below.
Instructions for filing the 2024–25 PSA with information from last year’s affidavit:
