Homeschooling Helps
In these current times we know a lot of families are making the decision to keep their kids home for school. We hope we can help answer some questions by letting you know a few things and then giving you some resources. We'll start with some general tips:
- Every day is a learning day. Reading, exploring, cooking, gardening...all that is considered learning, therefore schooling.
- California requires 175 learning days. More info here. Hours do not need to be logged.
- If your child completes his/her work in a couple hours, don't be surprised! Remember, at school the teacher is having to deal with 20-30 kids, which takes a lot more time.
- It's OK to sleep in. It's OK to take dance party breaks. It's OK to stay in your PJ's all day...might not want to make that one a habit though! :)
- Frustrations will run high between you and your child(ren). This is all new to you and to your kids! It's OK to feel overwhelmed! But give yourself grace. You CAN do this! It might be unorganized and chaotic at first, but we promise, it will get better. When frustrations are high, stop school, do something fun like play a game or get outside, and then try approaching the subject again.
